Stop studying strife, and learn to live the unexamined life!

So today Lexi's teacher sent home a sheet to let me know how she's doing, since she doesn't have any concerns that would need to be addressed in a parent/teacher conference. Lexi has far surpassed her goals for the end of the year already, including the fact that she reads at above a 3rd grade level! (The teacher isn't sure exactly what level she reads at, since she was taking too long testing Lexi and needed to test other students). Lexi is in 1st grade, so this is a big deal to me. :) She's just like I was when I was little - all I wanted to do was read!

This week is shaping up to be fairly boring so far, with the highlight being on Friday the 13th - I have tickets for Lexi and I to see the Louisville Ballet's production of Cinderella. She is out of her mind excited. She got a new dress, new fancy schmancy shoes, and I'm letting her borrow some of my jewelry to go with it. We're going to eat at the Old Spaghetti Factory, too. I didn't get a ticket for Gracie because her ADD won't allow her to sit still long enough to watch it (she fidgeted endlessly through the Nutcracker). Lexi is fascinated by ballet, so we're all good on the attention front, at least!

Hope everyone is having a great week so far! <3

Wii Fever

My kids have Wii fever. Since obtaining a Wii (and a Wii fit for me), we have gotten 4 games... and my kids are CRAZED. It's the first thing they want to do when they wake up and the last thing they want to do before they go to bed. They want to come home in the middle of the school day and play it. They are cracking me up! My 6 yr old has already FAR surpassed my highest bowling score, and is well on her way to beating my baseball pro score. My 8 yr old likes Tennis the best. I keep trying to get the kids to play Mario Kart with me, to no avail. I am greeted with cries of "Mom, you always win!" or "Mom, you need to play a different game!" AS IF, children, AS IF.

Proud Member of STEELER NATION

YES, I am a PROUD member of the Steeler Nation! I am a HUGE hardcore Pittsburgh Steelers fan - have been for many years, too. My husband and daughters are also hardcore Steelers fans. So you can imagine, after winning an exciting Superbowl last night, how frustrating it is to have to walk around today (while proudly wearing my Steelers gear) and hear people mutter under their breath "the Steelers cheated," or "Arizona's the better team," and so on and so forth. Okay, number one, if you are so proud or have such conviction in your statements, why are you mumbling? Number two, just because you say something negative about my team doesn't mean I'm going to change my mind about who I support. Number three, while I have great respect for Kurt Warner and his team, you guys who claim to be fans are acting like a bunch of crybaby jerks - do you realize what that means? Put it this way: if the Steelers had lost yesterday and I went around yelling at people in Cards gear that they cheated and/or the Steelers were robbed, what would you think of me? Still don't get it? Here it is, then, in the simplest terms: PITTSBURGH WON. Get over it.

I try to be a good sport about things, but apparently lots of people are really, really freaking sore losers. I loathe the Indianapolis Colts and BOTH Manning brothers for a myriad of reasons, but I don't go around and make veiled comments about them or their ability or inability to play. I understand that people are passionate about their teams, and passionate about football. God KNOWS I am the same way. I just don't understand why people feel the need to walk past a random stranger and say "The Cardinals are a better team." I lost my temper once and turned around and said "Yeah, that's why they're holding the Lombardy trophy right now, right? OOPS, my bad."

(Lexi's cheerleader outfit is coming tomorrow via FedEx, then I will have a pic of ALL of us)
